CHAIRMAN’S UPDATE

Dear Mural Friends,

What an exciting time to live in Vicksburg , MS and watch the changes taking place!  We have new murals on the floodwall and more being painted.  “The Founding of Vicksburg and Methodism” mural has been unveiled and is really a beautiful tribute to Newit Vick and the Methodist Churches in Vicksburg .  We owe a huge gratitude to the late Martha “Twick” Morrison for her perseverance in getting this one sponsored by the Methodist Churches of Warren County .

The artists are working on “Gold in the Hills”, “ Rosa A. Temple School ” and “Miss Mississippi ” murals this spring.  Each of these will add another highlight to the “Wall of Memories”.  This Fall we hope to add “Planter’s Hall” and one more exciting mural.

Money is being raised for “The 1927 Flood”, “Koestler’s Bakery” and “Kirk Fordice” murals.  If you would like to help with any of these please send your check to Nellie Caldwell, 704 Newit Vick Drive , Vicksburg , MS 39183 .  The total cost is $16,500 and we would appreciate any help in reaching this goal for all of the murals.

We are always so overwhelmed by the outpouring of gratitude from the community and visitors to Vicksburg for our mural project.  They look absolutely stunning in the glowing sunlight and even more beautiful at night with the lights.  We always have tourists down there taking pictures and enjoying our history.

After they finish this Spring, we should only have 5 more to go.  Just think – 32 beautiful murals in all!!!  What a treasure for many years to come.

Be a part of making this become a reality for Vicksburg .

                                                                        Until Later,

                                                            Nellie Caldwell, Chairman
