I was born in Vicksburg, and still live in Vicksburg. I am very proud of what our town has become and these murals are just spectacular! I am sending the cookies with the murals painted on them to friends who live way up in New Jersey! Maybe this will inspire them to come down sooner!!! Date: 02 May 2004 Mr. Gibson, Love the murals. Thanks for letting us know about the website. We enjoyed the service at St. Paul's Church in Vicksburg. Ray and Karmon Natchitoches, LA
The murals are truly works of art. For those of us who don't live near Vicksburg, may I suggest you add to your website the ability to click and see a full screen picture of each mural? Thanks
I HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO HEAR ABOUT THIS EXCITING PROJECT GOING ON IN VICKSBURG FROM WAYNE MCMASTER TUESDAY NIGHT AT THE LOWRY RIFLES CAMP SCV MEETING AND WAS VERY IMPRESSED AND JUST WANTED TO LET ALL KNOW. GLENN TAYLOR, LT CMDR LOWRY RIFLES CAMP #1740
I think of Vicksburg as one of my "home" places. This project is a wonderful addition to the richness of the experience anyone can get coming to the city. Seeing it first when only 2 or 3 of the murals were completed, I can't wait for my next visit to see the ones completed since. I do wish there was a way to view them larger than the size on this web page, but enjoyed seeing them anyway.
As someone who has been visiting Vicksburg since I was a child, I wanted to let you know that the murals have quickly become of one my favorite spots in Vicksburg. Along with a trip through the Park and fried chicken at Walnut Hills, the murals have become a "must-see" attraction for every here. Thank you for your work in bringing such a project to this city. Tyler Porter Fort Worth, Texas
The pictures are incredible. They really seem to come to life. This art really displays what Vicksburg is all about.
I was born in Vicksburg and have returned many times since I left, currently at least three times a year to visit my mother. I have watched the city for fifty-six years and have loved it, no matter what. This last year, however, has brought about a new pride in me as I have seen it cleaned up, restored, polished, and shined until it's absolutely beautiful again. The murals have added so much to that look--they are wonderful, and I look forward each visit now to quickly hurrying down to the riverfront to see what the newest one looks like. Can't wait to see all 21 more. Thanks so much! Betsy Porter. Center, Texas
I grew up in Vicksburg and I still consider Vicksburg as my home. During my childhood days, I never appreciated the history that Vicksburg held. Now that I am and adult, I know the great history that can be found in Vicksburg. The most wonderful thing about these murals is that you can actually see the history unfold before your eyes. It is absolutely amazing how realistic these paintings are. It is always exciting to visit the floodwall during my visits home. Christy---Alabama
I live out of state and I have not had the opportunity to visit the floodwall in Vicksburg but I check the website often to see the updated murals. I can't wait for the day that I am able to see the murals in person. I know they will be beautiful. Rhonda
I recently visited your city during Miss Mississippi Pageant and had a wonderful time. I was very impressed with the murals on your floodwalls. Each told a beautiful story in itself and certainly added a spark of class to the downtown area. Congratulations on a worthwhile project - can't wait until my next visit and see what has been added. Jody Duncan, Horn Lake, MS
Every time I visit Vicksburg I make it a point to go to the floodwall to see the murals that have been added since my last visit. They are beautiful and something the entire community should be proud of and boast about. The city should have brochures printed about them to place in strategic locations so all visitors to the area will be aware of them. Judy Lundy, Grenada, MS
Nellie and Mural Board, My Mother and I would like to thank you very much for including us in the unveiling of "The Selection Of A President". It was a real privilege to be in Vicksburg with all of you on June 3. The work that you all are doing with the floodwall is really incredible. Again, Thank You. Sincerely, Davis Webb
We seem to have fallen for Vicksburg. Have visited there more than twenty times. Very possible that we may retire in Vicksburg. The history, beautiful old homes, a much better pace of live and the overall atmosphere make this a preferred place for my wife and me. Allan & Linda Garner Whitesboro, Texas
Each time I visit this site, I am pleased with the content. The mural site is especially good, and it is heartwarming to see the community involved so actively in preserving Vicksburg's heritage.
